PT ANJ Agri is committed to operate its business operations in conjunction with a sustainable development policy with the intention to promote the interest of local communities where our estates are located.
For ANJ Agri, there is a minimum of 5 related stakeholders who stand to benefit from any investment that the Company makes. Those stakeholders are the shareholders through the profits generated from the investment, the government through local and state taxes, the local communities through multiplier effect and CSR program, the employees and their immediate family and lastly the parties who concern on the environmental conservation such as NGOs.
CSR in the field of Economy and Social
One of the CSR Program that the Company conducts in the field of Economy development consist of the revitalization of the community palm oil plantation. The program is directed towards the communities surrounding the Company whose livelihoods depend on farming with palm oil as its main commodity. This is also in line with the Company's needs for Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) for the Company's Palm Oil Mill. CSR activities consist of educating and guiding the farmers to improve their competence in managing their own local plantations in order to maximize production and garner maximum profitability for the communities.
This Program is conducted as pilot projects in the 100 ha plantation in Tobing Jahe Village (Air Galah, South Tapanuli) and in the 350 ha plantation in Dusun Pulung Rejo (Desa Simangambat Julu . South Tapanuli). These two areas were chosen as they are near one of the Company's estate and in light of the low productivity and poor FFB quality due to a lack of knowledge on the technical aspect of cultivation of palm oil, the technical know how of fertilizing up to the harvesting of FFB. The proximity to our Company's estate made it easy for the Company to provide training and serve as a training base for hands on experience at our Company high quality palm oil plantation.
The Company is also conducting several parallel programs designed to maximize under-utilized land in the surrounding areas by planting mahogany trees along the borders of the plantation and adding horticultural plants such as watermelons, legumes and cucumbers in various pockets of immature plantation areas.
CSR in the field of Education
In the field of education, the CSR program that is conducted by PT ANJ Agri is the creation of schools from Kindergarden, Elementary and Junior High school that is located in Binanga Estate, kabupaten Padang Lawas Regency, Utara in North Sumatra. This school was built to accommodate the education for the children of the Company's employees.
The Company provides free education to the children of its employees living in the Binanga Estate up to the level of Junior High School. Free transportation for the students from the various areas of the Estate are also provided by means of 4 units of school buses which picks up and delivers students from and to their homes. The schools are also helped by the funding from the Bantuan Operasional Sekolah/BOS (School Operational Aid) from the government which to further sustain the infrastructure and tools for teaching and for various extra-curricular activities. Currently there are about 950 students served by this school.
CSR in the field of Health, Infrastructure and Social Culture
In the field of Health, one of ANJ Agri CSR program is in the field of eye surgery for cataracts provided free of charge starting in 2008. 23 people have enjoyed this program, getting treatments from eye specialists from the Dharmais Hospital and Klinik Mata Nusantara. The Company is also active in providing routine mass circumcision in 2 Sub Regency covering 11 villages around the ANJ Agri estates and an Immunization Program for elementary and Junior High School students.
In the field of Infrastructure, the Company is active is building bridges, improving roads and ditches in the area of Paluta and Palas in North Sumatra. Up till 2009, the amount of funds spent for infrastructure reached Rp 16.5 bn. The improvement in infrastructure has eased the transportation of goods and FFB of the farmers to the nearest mill in those areas.
In the field of Social and Culture, the CSR activities are geared towards renovation of places of worship and management and support for people whose lives are dislocated due to natural disaster.
